MCA party polls 2013

MCA HQ, 21 May –

The MCA Central Committee has decided on 21 December 2013 for the next party elections, said MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek today in a press conference after chairing the Central Committee meeting today.

“Elections for the branches and grassroots will start on 15th July, and will culminate in the main body’s elections on 21 December 2013,” said Soi Lek today, explaining that in general, it normally takes about 5 months before the main body of the party can begin its elections as MCA will have to go through the process of registering and displaying its member’s list, as well as giving members the chance to air their dissatisfactions or raise objections if their names fail to appear.

Soi Lek also said that the party’s annual general meeting will be held on 22 December 2013, one day after the party’s polls.

DAP gagal selesaikan masalah penduduk Subang Jaya

DAP gagal menangani permasalahan penduduk Subang Jaya

– UTUSAN ONLINE 27 Apr 2013

GE13: Local businessman Gan set to take on DAP’s Yeoh

On April 20, 2013, in Community Highlights

Gan Meng Foo The STAR

Gan: Knows Subang Jaya as he has been living in USJ 8 since 1990.

BUSINESSMAN Gan Meng Foo, 51, will be banking on his 23 years as a Subang Jaya resident to woo voters during the GE13 campaign. The Kelana Jaya MCA secretary will be contesting for the Subang Jaya state seat against Hannah Yeoh from DAP.

“I was born in Seremban and brought up in Johor but I have been staying in USJ 8 since 1990 and I know the neighbourhood very well,” said the TAR College mechanical engineering graduate.

Gan believes problems in Subang Jaya, like cleanliness and crime, was due to a lack of civic consciousness among the people.

“Take the hawker centres for example. Sometimes, the stench from the area can be unbearable. I have been working with the hawker associations here to make them aware about the importance of keeping their area clean. They are now willing to work with me to educate others,” he said.

As for crime, Gan stressed that civic consciousness played an important role, saying he will be seeking the help of the younger generation to participate in community policing.

“Most of those involved in voluntary patrolling now are from the older generation,” said Gan.

Gan also criticised garbage collection services under Pakatan, which were sub-standard.

“Some of the contractors do not even own a truck. How can they be appointed?” he said.

Meanwhile, Yeoh, a 34-year-old law graduate, will be defending the seat she won in 2008 with a majority of 13,851 votes against Barisan’s Ong Chong Swen.

Yeoh has been living in Subang Jaya since her kindergarten days and attended SMK Subang Utama.

The other state seat under the Kelana Jaya parliamentary seat is Seri Setia, which has been embroiled in bickering among potential candidates.

The earlier names tipped as candidates were Umno deputy division chairman Datuk Yahaya Bujang and Seri Setia state liaison officer Datuk Abdul Halim Samad but Kelana Jaya Umno committee member Datuk Tengku Rethwan Tengku Mansor surprised many when he was announced as the candidate earlier this week.

Tengku Rethwan is the brother of incumbent Putrajaya MP Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor

Supporters of Abdul Halim protested at several places throughout the week, saying that they want a candidate who has been on the ground during the last few years.

State deputy election director Datuk Seri Mohd Zin Mohamed confirmed yesterday evening the change in candidate and that Tengku Rethwan has voluntarily withdrawn his candidacy.

Abdul Halim will now be taking on incumbent Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad of PKR, who defeated Umno’s Datin Paduka Seripah Noli Syed Hussin in 2008 with a 2,863-vote majority.

Just 26 then, Nik Nazmi was the youngest assemblyman in 2008 and the past five years have been a big learning experience for him.

Among some of the most challenging tasks that he took on during his tenure included the fight to retain the PKNS field in Kelana Jaya and to improve the living conditions in areas like Desa Mentari.
