Social media and politics

A Gen Y* friend asked me these questions:

“As technology advances new gadgets for the public to use, fast and easy info sharing nowadays, would voters be more involved in politics if social media was used more often?”

“How can politicians be truly engaging, rather than simply using social media as a Public Relations tool?”
